It is worth emphasising two elements of Romanesque and Gothic art that are helpful to us. The first: the masterpieces of art created in Europe in past centuries are incomprehensible unless one takes into account the religious spirit that inspired them.
Something completely new happened with the Incarnation. The search for God’s face was given an unimaginable turning-point, because this time this face could be seen: it is the face of Jesus, of the Son of God who became man.
Today is the Feast of St Clare of Assisi, who is depicted in the great window above the Altar here at Maiden Lane.
Today is the feast of St Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr.
Those who pray never lose hope, even when they find themselves in a difficult and even humanly hopeless plight. Sacred Scripture teaches us this and Church history bears witness to this.
Today is the feast of St Dominic. We wish a very happy feast to our friends at @rosaryshrine !
