Vestments

The restoration of the church building is pretty much complete. However the restoration of the spiritual and prayer life of the church continues.

When the restoration began, the Shrine had no dignified vestments for the celebration of Mass. There was an odd collection of cheap, polyester chasubles that were beginning to fall apart at the seams and were stained in places. Following some generous donations, we were able to purchase some new chasubles for the celebration of Mass.

Every time you see a priest climb the steps to offer the Holy Sacrifice, they are wearing a chasuble that bears the name of a donor, or the name in whose memory the set has been given. In this way, their intentions are always carried up to Calvary and prayed for at every Mass.

Particularly, as we are the Shrine, dedicated to Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, there are still some vestments we need to purchase for the celebration of the Mass: the greatest gift of God to the Church and the world. We need to obtain some dalmatics and copes in each colour for special solemnities and when we have visiting bishops: and these vestments will cost between Euro 450 to 750 a set.

It’s a marvellous opportunity to have a set purchased and used for the celebration of the Mass, in memory of a departed loved one. Each set will have in the lining the name of the person in whose memory the vestments have been purchased: asking each priest who wears them, to remember the deceased person at the altar. This is a beautiful way in which your deceased relatives and friends can be brought close to the Eucharistic Lord.

Would you like to make an offering in this manner? If you would, or for more information, please contact us in the Parish Office, by email or telephone, and we can discuss this with you. Please do not buy us vestments; we have a special offer with a Roman tailor and so we are just looking for donations at this stage. Thank you!

To make a donation, please use the Donate button below, which will take you to a secure Give A Little donation form. All major card types are accepted. If you would like to have the name of a loved one embroidered into the lining, please send an email to catholicchurchcoventgarden@gmail.com
