Today is the 30th anniversary of the Episcopal Consecration of His Eminence, @cardinalvincentnichols , Archbishop of @rcwestminster .

“God is God of the human heart”. These apparently simple words give us an impression of the spirituality of a great teacher of whom I would like to speak to you today: St Francis de Sales, a Bishop and Doctor of the Church.

It is impossible to look upon the divinity and not love it. Here below we only have a glimpse of it through the shadows of faith, seeing it as "in a mirror."

Today’s Liturgy brings together two separate passages of Luke’s Gospel and presents them to us. The first is the Prologue, addressed to a certain “Theophilus”. Since this name in Greek means “friend of God” we can see in him every believer who opens himself to God and wants to know the Gospel. Instead the second passage presents Jesus who, “in the power of the Spirit”, goes to the Synagogue in Nazareth on the Sabbath.

The French writer Jean Guitton described the Saints "as the colours of the spectrum in relation to light", because with their own tones and accentuations each one of them reflects the light of God's holiness. How important and useful, therefore, is the commitment to cultivate knowledge of and devotion to the Saints, alongside daily meditation on the Word of God and filial love for Our Lady!

Today is the feast of St Agnes. St Agnes is one of the famous Roman maidens who demonstrated the genuine beauty of faith in Christ and of friendship with him. Her double description as Virgin and Martyr refers to the totality of the dimensions of holiness that is also required of us by our Christian faith.
