Disabled Access and Facilities

We aim to ensure that Corpus Christi is accessible to all. If you think you may experience access difficulties, or if you have any suggestions as to how we can improve our service, please contact us via email.

Wheelchair users and visitors who have a mobility impairment

Corpus Christi is set below street level and there is no step free access as a result. A wheelchair lift is available via the glass door entrance, located to the right of the main entrance, by the lamp post. This is operated with a key, so upon entering the church via the glass doors, please flag down a member of the Shrine staff who will be happy to assist. If you are visiting outside of Mass/service hours, please ring the Presbytery on 020 7836 4700.

Holy Communion can be brought to you during Mass if you find it difficult / are unable to come to the Altar Rails. Please speak to the Priest or one of the Shrine staff before Mass to let them know where you are sitting.

Assisted hearing facilities

Corpus Christi is equipped with a Loop to help hearing aid users receive clear sound from the microphones without background noise.

Visitors can use this facility by switching their hearing aids to ‘T’.

Hearing dogs are welcome in the church. Fresh drinking water can be provided upon request.

Visitors who are Blind or Partially Sighted

Guide dogs are welcome in the Shrine. Fresh drinking water can be provided upon request.

There are stairs down from the street level into the church. Once inside the Shrine, however, the floors in the nave are level. There is a step into the Lady Chapel. There are also steps before the main Sanctuary and Sacred Heart altar, though these areas are not typically publicly accessible.

Visitors with a Gluten Intolerance

Low-gluten hosts are available for those with gluten intolerances. Please speak to the Priest before Mass begins to ensure that a host is consecrated for you.

N.B. Hosts which are completely gluten-free are not permitted by the Catholic Church for consecration, so the hosts available are made from a modified pure wheat starch (Codex) with a maximum of 20mg gluten per kg (20 parts per million). This satisfies the canonical requirements of the Catholic Church for gluten content and also the standards of the Coeliac Society for products labelled gluten-free.

Parking

There is no car park at Corpus Christi. Limited on-street parking, including disabled bays, can be found on Southampton Street, or other surrounding streets, with payments being made directly to Westminster City Council. Click here for more information.

Toilets

There are no publicly accessible toilets at the Shrine. Public toilets are available in the main Piazza of Covent Garden Market.
